I am in my first semester of teaching and it has been difficult coming on in the middle of year. I didn't get to plan and orgranize how I wanted too and am going off bits and pieces I find from the previous teacher. I am stressed about everything that has to be done by the end of the year and I have no idea what has to be done. Another, thing is trying to utilize my strengths and doing what's best for the student, but all I hear about is the previous teacher and how they did. I want to be the good teacher that helps the kids but I am finding I am getting run over and taken advantage of, how do I changes this?

I feel slightly better about a first year teacher after reading this post. Everything was going so smoothly the first two weeks of school and then BAM! I felt like I hit a wall. I am starting to feel better again now that I have started to isolate what is making me the most stressed.
It is good to know that you're only a first year teacher once, and that everyone has gone through this year. I keep hoping everything will get better by January, but it looks like Febuary might be the more realistic goal.

I am glad that the comments and suggestions are helpful, and most of all, happy that you are entering your second year of teaching special education students. The first year is always the most difficult. Now you will be the one helping other beginning teachers.

I'm a second year teacher and I found this blog and all the previous ones very helfpul. As a first year teacher I struggled with managing my time and at times allowing my stress level to escalate to a point where it consumed me and affected everything going on in my life. It is so important to find a balance between work and home life, and continuing to take part in the activities/hobbies that we each love. All of the blogs and links to other resources have been very helpful, and I feel I am better prepared to start my second year on the right foot! Thanks!
