It's great to hear from another teacher who empathizes. That regression and feeling of being back to square one really can be so frustrating. But you're right, it feels so good to get to know them on a deeper level, especially because these students can be so often complex and misunderstood.

Thanks for commenting Katie! :)

Wow. What an amazing group of students you must have in your classroom. I also am teaching in a position where I have the opportunity to work with the same students over a few years. This is my second year in this position full time and I can already see tremendous growth in many of my students from last year. I enjoy having the opportunity to get to know them on a deeper level so that I can help them make motivating connections to the content they are learning. However, I find that it can be frustrating when they continue to struggle with the same skill or concept over and over. Many times, just as I think they are starting to grasp it, they regress and we are back at square one. Although my students do not have nearly the struggles that yours do, I can empathize with your feeling of exhaustion from this challenging process.
