I just began my first year of teaching and I was unprepared for the hours and hours that it takes to set up a classroom. The class I took over moved down the hall;as a result, I spent every moment I could cleaning, sorting, and unpacking all the material. I am amazed that I got it all done before school started. I am beginning to see that although there is a lot to do as special educators, somehow it all seem to get done.

@Gerryanne--Good luck. I love the EBD room. I had to do a split placement (when I student taught) and I enjoyed it immensely over the MD room. It's a challenge each day to be sure, but it is worth the effort. I hope you have a rewarding experience.

It sounds like your days coming up to the first day of school was jam packed. I too spent my first week of student teaching sitting in meetings, although your meetings seemed a little more interesting than mine. It's great to see that although you were overloaded the week before teaching, you persisted to go to meetings and things to better your teaching abilities. For my student teaching placement I was going to be in an EBD/LD classroom, and I was actually really interested to see how an EBD room was ran, but unfortunately they switched my placement, so I really am looking forward to reading more of your experience.

Yeah, it was kind of a chore sleeping. I had too much to do and I wanted it done correctly. :-) Who needs sleep?

Wow--when did you sleep last week? So glad to hear you have a good para--they are worth their weight in whatever is 2 steps beyond platinum. Can't wait to hear how the first day/week/month went :) Mary Beth Diehl, early childhood special educator
